BIO

Maureen Church is an accomplished artist who finds inspiration in the beauty of nature. She has devoted herself full-time to her art, working in oils and encaustic at her studio at 34 Elton St. in downtown Rochester, NY. As a signature artist in the Genesee Valley Plein Air Painter’s group, she shares her joy for plein air painting in local shows and competitions. Her passion is evident in her small, vibrant paintings, which often serve as references for her larger canvases.

At the heart of her works are her plein air studies, which capture spontaneous moments in areas in the Finger Lakes region, local urban scenes, and occasional seascapes. These studies serve as the initial sparks of inspiration, reflecting the authenticity of her encounters with nature. Through these small yet vibrant studies, she aims to convey the essence and energy of the landscapes that have her captivated.

Following the sketchbook studies, she transitioned to working with oil paints en plein air, allowing to further explore and interpret the ever-changing light and atmosphere. These paintings, created on location, reflect a deeper engagement with the environment, as she captures the nuances of color, value, composition and texture that can only be experienced in the great outdoors.

Maureen's award winning work has been juried into numerous galleries, locally and abroad. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States, as well as in public collections at The Genesee Land Trust, Pittsford Fine Art Gallery, and the Santa Fe Encaustic Museum.
